Why Fleetman?

We have economically priced chargers that match up well with low use, used forklifts and we can also supply our customers with high quality, fully featured chargers that work well with fast paced environments operating single shift or multi-shift work cycles.

For those users wanting to operate two plus shifts per day, we can also supply opportunity charge technology and / or fast charge technology which will eliminate the need for spare batteries along with a battery changing area, provided that your work flow will allow enough time for short periods of re-charging spread evenly throughout the day.

Choosing the right forklift battery charger or electric pallet jack charger is critical for maintaining a healthy battery but it’s equally important so that you have enough “fuel” at the start of each shift, and throughout the shift, to meet the demands of your business.

Let us help you make the right choice that matches the needs of your battery, work cycle and the needs of your budget.

The Top Ten Issues To Consider When Choosing An Industrial Battery Charger

  1. Make sure you source the battery from the same place that you source the charger. This way, if you have a problem with either the battery or charger, you can go back to the vendor company for support. Sometimes it isn’t always clear whether the battery or charger is the problem. If you source both items from the same place, you will prevent one company from blaming the other for the issue at hand.
  2. Ultra Maxx Forklift Battery ChargerThe charger must be properly matched to the battery to prevent irreversible damage to the battery. With older forklift trucks that need a replacement forklift battery, sometimes the company supplying the battery won’t take the extra step of having a technician, who is trained in battery and charger technology, adjust the charger so that it matches the characteristics of the replacement battery. Skipping this step will likely shorten the life of the battery and / or limit the “fuel” that can be extracted over its’ life due the effects of chronic undercharging or overcharging.
  3. The output voltage of the charger must match the battery voltage and the voltage of the forklift’s electrical system to avoid battery damage.
  4. Make sure the connector on the charger matches the connector on the battery and the connector on the forklift.
  5. Always purchase an auto start / auto stop charger that is designed to stop the charging process when the battery is fully charged.
  6. Look for a charger that monitors battery temperature and adjusts the charge rate when the temperature falls outside of the normal operating range. High battery temperatures, beyond what is considered normal, will have a direct impact on the life of the battery.
  7. Make sure you choose a forklift battery charger that has the ability to equalize the battery. Battery equalization is needed to keep a battery from accumulating excessive lead sulfate on the plates which will result in a reduction of battery capacity and life.
  8. Most forklift battery chargers are sold without the cables that connect the charger to an electrical supply. The cost of these cables, and the cost to have an electrician connect the charger to your electrical supply, should be considered when determining the total cost of the charger.
  9. Check your electrical supply to make sure it has enough capacity to handle the normal operating amperage draw, but also the start-up amperage draw. Keep in mind that when a forklift battery charger initially starts up for the first time during the charge cycle, it draws a lot of current and this may affect other electrical products in your facility if your electrical service is inadequate. You may have experienced a similar situation with your home dryer where shortly after pressing the dryer’s start button, you noticed your home lights flickering momentarily.
  10. Output cables that connect the charger to the forklift are usually supplied with the forklift battery charger but these cables may not be long enough to suit the location of the charger in relation to the location of the forklift during battery charging. Also, it is very important locate the charger up off the ground on a wall bracket or on some pallet racking to keep the charger from being damaged by the forklift. As well, the cables should be mounted using a flexible pogo stick or hanger to prevent them from being run over and damaged by the forklift.

Where To Start When Looking For A Forklift Battery Charger

Or Electric Pallet Jack Battery Charger

  1. Have a qualified electrician assess your electric system to determine whether there is enough electrical capacity ( amps ) to handle the demands of an industrial battery charger during start - up and during normal operation.
  2. UltraCharge Forklift Battery ChargerBy looking at the electrical panel, find out what voltages are available and make sure the charger is properly matched to these voltages. Chargers today are usually flexible enough to match with whatever voltage supply is available.
  3. Find out whether you have single phase power or three phase power available at your electrical panel. You can source a charger to match either type but it is important that the charger company knows this in advance. Three phase power is more cost effective and efficient at charging a large battery than a single phase charger but the purchase price of a three phase charger is more costly than a single phase charger.
  4. Depending on the available space in your facility and how many lift trucks you operate, you have the option of choosing an individual charger for each forklift or there is an option to select a style of charger that contains more than one charger in the same box. Having more than one charger in the same box saves on space and reduces the overall cost of the chargers required.
  5. If your operation handles flammable substances, it is possible that the forklift, battery and charger should be “EE” or explosion proof rated and if these types of construction are not available, then you will need to make arrangements to mount the charger outside of the potentially flammable area. Check with your insurance company and your own company policies to find out what is required ahead of time.

New Vs Used Forklift Battery Chargers / Electric Pallet Jack Battery Chargers

Unless you take the necessary steps to thoroughly test a used battery charger to make sure it is working correctly, we would always recommend that you acquire a new forklift battery charger over a used forklift battery charger. A used battery charger that is not functioning correctly, or isn’t set up correctly, will likely damage a battery and shorten its life.

Industrial Battery Chargers Can Be A Fire Hazard

Positioning forklift battery chargers away from flammable materials and clutter will help reduce the chance that the charger will be a source of fire at your facility.
